Green facades for offices and commercial buildings.

VDK·VDW Groenmeesters designs green facades for offices, commercial buildings and other business premises. We look beyond the facade itself. Starting from the overall design, we create a solution in which architecture, planting and your company’s identity come together.

Green your office with a green facade.

Greening an office does not necessarily mean creating additional space on the ground. A green facade makes use of the vertical space of your commercial building and can transform an existing facade into a striking green element of the architecture. Greenery can be applied around the entrance, across an entire facade or as a green accent wall. This creates a representative appearance that complements the identity of your organisation.

For companies that want to make sustainability visible, green facade planting is a powerful way to literally make that ambition part of the building.

Green facades for commercial buildings: what are the possibilities?

A green facade is not limited to one particular type of building. Depending on the construction, location and desired appearance, facade greenery can be applied to a wide range of facade types.

For example:

  • concrete facades
  • brick facades
  • wooden facades
  • steel and metal facades
  • facades with aluminium or composite cladding
  • prefabricated facade systems
  • certain sandwich panels

The most suitable solution depends on factors such as the existing facade, load-bearing capacity, orientation and desired level of coverage. Systems such as the MobiPanel by Mobilane are designed for both new and existing facades and can be used with various facade types.

What are the benefits of a green facade?

A green facade does more than give a commercial building a natural appearance. By adding vertical planting, a facade can contribute to a more climate-resilient and pleasant environment.

  • Reducing heat stress
Stone and dark-coloured facades can absorb significant amounts of heat. Greenery on and around buildings can help make the immediate surroundings more comfortable. Especially in urban and highly paved areas, greening a facade can therefore be part of a broader approach to reducing heat stress.
  • A visible sustainable identity
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to companies, employees and visitors. A green facade makes your sustainability ambitions visible. The facade becomes not only part of the architecture, but also part of your organisation's identity.
  • More biodiversity
Greenery provides habitat and food for insects and other animals, contributing to biodiversity. Depending on the facade system and planting selected, a green facade can form part of a broader green landscape around the commercial building.
  • A more attractive working environment
A green environment can give a building a softer and more natural appearance. A green entrance can also create a warmer and more welcoming arrival for employees, clients and visitors.
  • Making use of vertical space
Space on commercial sites is often limited, while a facade provides a large vertical surface. Green facade planting therefore allows you to add greenery without sacrificing additional ground space.

Green facade systems can also contribute to biodiversity, air quality and the capture of particulate matter.

Apply for a subsidy for green facade planting.

A green facade can be part of the sustainability improvements made to your commercial building. In 2026, ‘Green facade or wall’ is included on the Dutch Environmental and Energy List (Milieu- en Energielijst) of RVO. Under certain conditions, this can make investments eligible for tax benefits through the MIA/Vamil scheme.

Municipalities and provinces may also offer subsidies for greening commercial buildings. The available schemes vary by location and can change regularly. Would you like to know what options are available for your commercial building? We would be happy to think along with you.
